Joanie San Chirico
Artist's Statement ::
Joanie San Chirico is a full time studio artist with an extensive exhibition record. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections. She integrates her love of the stitch with her fascination with the past. She’s intrigued by the combination of old and new, ancient and the unknown. The objective is to make modern abstract art using ancient imagery. The intention is to use this juxtaposition of ancient/modern to reflect on the past in an attempt to make sense of the future.
She uses various pigments, disperse and natural dyes, stitching and manipulation of cloth, paper and paint to achieve the illusion of a patina of age.
In addition to commissions and exhibitions, Joanie is an independent curator who has created exhibits of contemporary fiber art in New Jersey and New York City.
