Digital and 35mm Camera Recommendations:

We recommend using a digital camera so you can easily preview the images.  If you do not have a digital camera and wish to purchase one, we suggest looking at www.steves-digicams.com or http://www.megapixel.org for digital camera ratings, prices, etc.  Try shooting on the automatic setting, without a flash.  You may have to change settings if you notice a variation in background colors.  Preview your initial shots to check for consistency in color..

We also suggest purchasing a digital card reader such as San Disk, to upload your images onto your computer.  Utilizing a digital card reader saves time by eliminating the need to first plug your camera into a computer and then set it upon the tripod again.

Using a 35mm camera:  Use a camera with a standard 50 mm lens, mounted on a tripod.  You will need two rolls of film (36 exposures).  A flash is not necessary.  When you are done shooting your images, have the film developed onto a CD at your local film development store.

Lighting Recommendations:

Try both single and multiple sources of light.  We recommend a 50 or 70 watt indoor, white, floodlight, or a blue daylight bulb. Use what best maintains and most accurately represents the true color of your art.  Equipment includes a stand to clamp the light source to, and clamps.  C-stands are available at www.bhphotovideo.com under "lighting and studio." Boom stands are available at most commercial photography equipment stores.  Using a household ladder is another option.  Sheer, white, non flammable material can be clamped over the light fixtures to soften the appearance of the light.
